Statement from the Artist:

In “Ethereal”, I explore the unfolding of my spiritual journey growing beyond old boundaries into new practices. Guided by African spiritual traditions and ancient Egyptian wisdom, I infuse each piece with elements from my daily life symbols and views that connect me to spirit. This work is also a tribute, a giving of thanks to the women before us my ancestors and the spiritual women whose presence still guides us today.

About the Artist:

As a homegrown artist from Washington, DC, my work is rooted in the people and culture that raised me. Since childhood, creating has been my language, but in 2018 I began to approach it as both a discipline and a calling. My art practice spans painting, teaching, and art therapy, allowing me to use creativity as a bridge between self-expression and community care.

I am deeply inspired by my community, the Black community, and the everyday moments that define us. As an observer and “people watcher,” I pay attention to the gestures, styles, and expressions that carry the essence of Black culture. To me, Blackness is authentic, dynamic, and powerful; it is both personal and collective. My work reflects a nostalgic view of what Blackness means to me, while also creating space for viewers to see themselves, question their own definitions, or affirm what Blackness means in their lives.

Ultimately, my practice is about bringing people together through the various layers of identity and expression that make up our shared humanity, with Blackness at the center as a cultural force that shapes society.
