SOLD, NOT TOLD: Nic At Nite Solo Art Show
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 1st 2025
"Sold, Not Told" is a powerful exhibition that shines a light on the stories often silenced in the exchange of culture and commerce. Through vibrant visuals and thought-provoking symbolism, the show explores what gets lost when identities, histories, and creativity are commodified — and what voices still rise in defiance. Bold, unflinching, and deeply resonant, "Sold, Not Told" invites audiences to experience art that challenges, questions, and speaks truths that can’t be bought.
About the Artist:
Nicole Johnson, also known as Nic at Nite, is an African-American visionary, artist, and technologist hailing from New Jersey and currently based in Washington, DC. In 2020, she decided to shift the trajectory of her life, allowing her passion for art to reclaim a more central role. Proficient in various mediums, from oil pastel and acrylic, spray paint and sculpture, Nicole’s artistic journey seamlessly blends her love for visual arts and music.
Despite not being part of the Fine Arts program, Nicole actively participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout her four-year college stint at SUNY Albany. In 2004, she graduated with a degree in Business Marketing and Management, embarking on a successful career in technology as a solutions architect and leader. Her artistic talents, however, continued to flourish, leading to several commissioned commercial art and design projects.
Drawing inspiration from 90s culture, hip hop, cartoons, and comics, her work delves into highlighting the current and historical representation of Black characters in the artistic realm. Through series that emphasize Black power, love, and sociopolitical commentary, Nicole endeavors to reclaim and redefine images that were once normalized but are now deemed controversial, sparking thoughtful conversations in her vibrant and impactful creations.
