Aesthetics of Care: Mutual Aid + Organizational Models in Queer Nightlife +

  • Station 3510 3510 Rhode Island Avenue Mount Rainier, MD, 20712 United States (map)

Aesthetics of Care is a hybrid teach-in + print workshop, exploring mutual aid models in black queer nightlife and DIY culture - both in history and in contemporary culture. How have black and queer people within underground subcultures used aesthetics to put mutual aid praxis into tangible practices? What are the factors that made it possible for these models to work and how can we build on them in our present ecosystems? This workshop muses on the famous Toni Cade Bambara quote “The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible”, as well as Catherine Fairbanks’ research on aesthetics of empathy.

Facilitated by Hermetic State.
